Holiday Homes Tour 2011 

 

The Annual Holiday Hospice at Home Homes Tour is on Sunday, December 4, 2011. All proceeds are used by South Haven Hospice at Home to provide hospice and bereavement care in the South Haven area.  Buy tickets online here until December 2.  Tickets purchased by November 28 will be mailed.  Tickets purchased after that will be held at the South Haven Hospice at Home office - 05055 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, MI.

This year we will be featuring a variety of homes, from historic to recently built, and from simple to elaborately decorated.  Our hospice organization has been providing care in our community for over 30 years. The funds from this event make a difference in the lives of our neighbors, friends, and families.

From 1pm to 5pm on December 4, the public will have the opportunity to tour the following premier homes:

Keith and Fran Smith take great pride in their three floors of holiday decor.  Christmas trees of various sizes and colors adorn every room in the home.  The lights, candles, and collections of snowmen are everywhere to be admired.  The Smiths welcome you to their Winter Wonderland

The newest home on the tour, completed in November of this year, is the retirement home of Nancy and Phil Kayse.  This custom built, craftsman style, energy efficient home is built in a wooded setting with a walk out lower level leading to a ravine and creek.  The Kayse family loves the holiday season and demonstrates that love through their holiday decorations.

The Fritz family discovered this hidden treasure in 2010.  Today it reflects the TLC given it by its new owners and their many artistic friends.  The original white oak floors are restored to a dark mahogany, hosting cottage white trim and shabby chic decor appointed antiques for a time capsule journey.  the hidden gem in this charming home is a full-size indoor pool with a spiral stairway leading to the loft.

This charming Victorian was in the Eby family for many, many years.  Mike Kane, an experienced craftsman, was employed by the Eby's granddaughter to work with her on its restoration.  Now finding himself the owner, Mike continues the delicate work of marrying the old world craftsmanship with modern amenities.  The Kanes are proud to be the stewards of this Grand Victorian Lady.

Chuck and Debbie Beatty built and moved into the home, "Sacajawea's Woods," in March 2009.  It is named after the Indian squaw who helped lead the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  The rustic home is a "Timber Frame" style which includes knotty hickory, knotty alder, knotty pine, granite and stone, making this home an interesting architectural masterpiece.

The Historical Association of South Haven (HASH) was formed in 2002 to collect and preserve South Haven history.  Since 2006, the former Hartman School building, a State of Michigan historical site built in 1906, has been their home.  They have been restoring and improving the building, while taking care to keep its heritage intact.  The Historical Association welcomes Home Tour visitors for refreshments and an opportunity to view their current exhibits.
